Montgomery College has been recognized as the top community college in Maryland and ranked 17th nationally among more than 650 community colleges in WalletHub's comprehensive 2025 Best & Worst Community Collegesnew window study released today. The rankings underscore Montgomery College's commitment to providing exceptional educational value and outcomes for students across Montgomery County and the greater Washington, D.C. region.

In addition to Montgomery College's outstanding individual performance, Maryland earned the distinction of having the nation's #1 community college system, highlighting the state's dedication to accessible, high-quality higher education.

WalletHub's comprehensive analysis evaluated community colleges across 18 key indicators of cost and quality, including tuition affordability, student-faculty ratios, graduation rates, and post-graduation employment outcomes. The study comes at a particularly relevant time as families nationwide face financial pressures from inflation, making affordable higher education options increasingly important.

“A good community college minimizes costs for students while also providing an enriching learning experience that leads to high student retention and high graduation rates,” Chip Lupo, WalletHub analyst. “The best colleges also help their students even post-graduation by offering employment services to help them find jobs with good salaries. Finally, many of the best community colleges realize school isn’t the only place people learn, so they offer credit for life experiences.”
